Shipping to the US from Canada: what to know before you order...

The short version
Orders shipped to the US are subject to import duties and taxes, regardless of order value. These are set and collected by US Customs, not by Eclettica, and they are not included in our product prices or shipping charges. The delivery carrier will collect them from you, typically at or before delivery.

What are duties and tariffs?
When goods enter the US, your government charges a fee on them. This is a standard part of international shopping, and it applies to clothing and textiles from many countries. You may have noticed media headlines around tariff rates varying on a day-to-day basis lately.

What decides the amount?

  • Where the item was made. This is the biggest factor. It's the country of origin, not where we ship from. Much of our collection is made in Europe, and rates depend on the specific country.
  • What the item is. Clothing is grouped into categories, such as tops, dresses or outerwear.
  • What it's made of. Fibre content matters (linen, cotton, wool, silk, synthetics), as does whether the fabric is knitted or woven.
  • Its value. Charges are generally based on what you paid.
  • Trade policy at the time of import. Rates and rules are set by governments and can change with trade agreements and policy decisions, sometimes with little notice. The rules in effect when your package enters the US are the ones that apply, which may differ from when you placed your order.

Because these factors combine differently for every product, we can't give an exact figure in advance. Final amounts are determined by US Customs when your package enters the country.

How it works with your order

  1. You pay Eclettica for your items and shipping at checkout.
  2. We ship your order using the carrier selected for your shipment.
  3. The carrier will contact you or collect payment for any duties and taxes. They may also add a handling or brokerage fee.

Note that we're a clothing boutique, not customs brokers, so we can't quote duty amounts, but we're happy to share what we know.
